Italian á la carte, Italian food, pizza, pasta - Italian restaurants in Stockholm
Say Italy, and most of us think of pasta, pizza, cars, Anita Ekberg, delicious coffee - and soccer, or course. Italian culture is an enduring export product in the world, not least when food is concerned.
The first restaurants arrived in Stockholm in the sixties, and today there are many fine restaurants, from small neighborhood taverns à la Lady and the Tramp to exclusive restaurants.
Restaurant Dolce Vita is a wonderful Italian neighborhood restaurant on Kungsholmen. Here, the mood is always at its highest among the regulars and other guests. The kitchen prepares good Italian food on sun-ripe vegetables, fine cheeses and hams, home-made pasta, and carefully kneeded pizza… Simply la dolce vita, i.e. the sweet life.
– We are proud of our quality. We make our pasta every other day on durum wheat, which has a higher nutritional content than ordinary white wheat. The pasta is then boiled to precisely al dente and served with carefully chosen seasoning. Every day, we have approximately fifteen different pasta dishes on the menu, says Celal Parlac.
Stockholmers have a great love for the Italian cuisine. Now, the Italian Vapiano chain has established itself in town with its first restaurant in Sweden. Vapiano means ”go slowly”, and we surely take our time as we read the menu where no Italian specialties are missing. The open kitchen deserves special praise as we can observe the skilled chefs at their trade!
Classic Italian wood owen baked pizza
We would also like to recommend restaurant Agaton, a romantic establishment in a style that Lady & the Tramp would fancy. The tables are round, set with red and white tablecloths and, of course, lots of candle light. The menu is classic Italian with Italian cured meats and provisions, home made pasta, pizza, meat and fish dishes, and wonderful deserts. So, order Tagliatelle with scampi, chanterelle mushrooms, garlic, fresh chili, and cream and share a cozy moment with your sweetheart. A sweet life for the mouth, stomach, and heart.
And, now we must tell you about Michelangelo, a classic address in Gamla Stan. The restaurant has been run by Nick Nicastro since 1973, together with his brother, Salvatore. The brothers continue running Michelangelo with great flair and passion, but now the next generation is onboard, as well.
Ristorante Paganini, named after the great Italian musician, is another nice choice. Here, too, the pasta has the proper al dente, and the wine list leaves nothing to be desired in terms of fine export wines.
Wonderful export products are also available at Sally’s Bar, an Italian bar and restaurant with a distinct 60-ies feel. Tinted lamps and low tables with comfy cushions create a relaxed atmosphere. The cuisine spans all regions of Italy, and includes pizza, pasta, meat, poultry, and seafood dishes.
Last, but not least, Ciao Ciao Grande deserves to be mentioned. Here we
come to an Italian tavern with a relaxed feel of luxury. Many regulars,
the skilled staff, and the wonderful aromas from the kitchen guarantee
a good mood in the dining room. The exquisite brick-oven pizzas are
wonderful, but the à la carte menu is also worth a special study before
deciding. A nice “slip in” place in the heart of fine Östermalm!
Spanish tapas or Lebanese meze and sensual BELLY DANCE
Restaurant Andalucia is adhering strictly to southern Spanish cuisine. A cuisine characterized by the fertile soil providing an abundance of fruits, vegetables, and grapes, and the sun creating a generous lifestyle. We appreciate the warmth and joy of living at Restaurant Andalucia, offering an exquisite tapas menu, exciting types of sherrys and southern charm.
You will also find tapas dishes at San Leandro Tapas on Sveavägen. Tapas gives you a fantastic choice of delicious small dishes, and it is the perfect way to enjoy a meal together.
Lebanon is a small country with a generous gastronomic heart. The warmth, generosity, and all the delicious things we discover at restaurant Tabbouli, located both on Söder and Kungsholmen. We really thrive in this warm and welcoming milieu with so many textiles. Our table quickly fills up with meze dishes, e.g. grilled hallouni cheese, delicious wine leaf rolls, and air-dried beef fillet on a salad bed. Our glasses are filled with the fiery Lebanese red wine, and later we enjoy spiced coffee, exquisite pastry, and hookah.
We continue the pleasurable road. Restaurant Little Persia, on Söder, is a natural place to take a break. The cozy bar and the dining room are often packed to the limit. The kitchen tempts us with Persian specialties, such as grilled lamb, chicken, fish, and vegetarian food. Many patrons enjoy morasapolo, chicken fillet with raisins, almonds, saffron, milk, and flour served with rice. Simply Persian home cooking, which makes our hearts beat a little faster.
Newly opened Mangal on Sveavägen, in central Stockholm, is another of our favorites. Mangal means coal grill, and this is exactly what a part of the rich-in-flavor Turkish cuisine is all about. The meat is grilled on the coal grill to bring out as much taste and aroma as possible. But Turkish food is so much more, including meze, cold and warm small dishes, and pide, Turkey’s answer to pizza! At Mangal’s, we try new tastes, but are also happy to return to classics, such as kebab with delicious accompaniments. And, if we are lucky, several Mangals will open around town. At least, this is the vision of the owners!
