We begin the evening at Paladar in Hemingway’s Lounge, a cozy lounge where we enjoy long drinks and cocktails for starters. The lounge is decorated with photos and items à la Hemingway, and we can also leaf through some of the great US writer’s works. Hemingway loved Cuba.
– You can relax here while you enjoy drinks with names inspired by Hemingway’s novels. By the way, did you know that it was Hemingway who introduced Fidel Castro to the classic drink, Mojito, says Luis Perez, one of the owners, who has roots in Cuba.
Paladar means sense of taste in Spanish. Paladar used to also be the name for small informal restaurants in Cuba that were allowed to receive twelve guests, at the most. Luckily for us, no such restrictions exist in Stockholm, so gather the gang and head for Paladar de Cuba. Here, we imbibe Nacional de Cuba, which is made of rum, apricot brandy, lime juice, sugar, and pineapple, and then we listen to the salsa rhythms. For dinner, we select from the Caribbean menu a crab mixture with avocado and grilled young rooster breast with paprika sauce. Much later, we browse the rum selection and enjoy old matured rum and perhaps a really good cigar. The buzz and music make Havana seem very close.
